Malmbrog. 11
39235 Kalmar
Sweden
Syftet med projektet:
The purpose of the common project is that the Swedish and Icelandic pupils together learn more about how resources influence society. Society and people’s way of living affect the global climate today. It is important for the pupils to learn more about the importance of the climate and its variation. How can we influence climate and environment through our life style? The pupils will also find out if there are any differences in the youth’s awareness of climate changes and environmental issues in both countries. Also if media have different approaches? It is also important for the pupils to meet people in the same age from other countries, especially from neighbouring Nordic countries.
Sammanfattning av projektet:
This project concerns how the resources in a country influence society and also how the activities in society can affect the climate and its variations. The pupils work in mixed groups, each group work with a special theme. The pupils visit each other both in autumn 2009 and in spring 2010. At the last visit the project is finished and the pupils show their work to each other and the teachers. The project’s results will also be distributed to other pupils, parents, teachers and others at the home school.

Rødovre
Denmark
Kontaktperson: Jesper Lohmann

23) SOS Polar Bears
Koordinerande skola: Kursenai Laurynas Ivinskis Gymnasium
V. Kudirkos 33
Kursenai
Lithuania
Kontaktperson: Roma Albrikiene
Syftet med projektet:
- to encourage mutual understanding and tolerance between young people from Lithuania and Finland
- to know the partner‘s country‘s culture and maintain the dialogue between Lithuanian and Finnish cultures.
- to educate town communities about the changes in climate and ecology.
Sammanfattning av projektet:
During the project „SOS Polar Bears“ two groups of young people from two EU countries situated by the Baltic Sea will investigate the changes in climate, their impact on environment, people and their health, flora and fauna. A questionnaire will be prepared, in which they will ask their town people about the changes in climate, together with professionals from the department of environment will measure the amount of traffic fumes in the air, will watch and take pictures of photochemical smog phenomenon in industrial areas.
The participants of the project will analyse the data of the questionnaire and research, compare them, draw the conclusions and present the results to their town communities. Lithuanian and Finnish students will enhance their school knowledge of Natural Science about the hothouse effect, photochemical smog, acid rain, erosion of soil, thickenning of the ozone layer. The accepted knowledge, threats, feara and encouragement to save our environment and health will mirror in students‘ produced comic-strips, which are believed to stimulate their contemporaries, parents and teachers to think about the possibilities to influence the reasons of the changes in climate.
The symbol of the project and the main hero of the comic-strips has been chosen the Polar Bear, a representative of endangered because of the changes in climate species. The students‘ created comic-strips will be used to shoot short video films with Lithuanian and Finnish music as the background which will be chosen by the youth. The videos on CDs will be one of the project products, and will be used in teaching and learning Natural Sciences and in various lectures.
Another project product will be a 2011 calendar with the illustrations from the comic-strips on the topic of climate changes and summarised data from the research. The calendar as a product was chosen not accidentally because Kuršenai Laurynas Ivinskis gymnasium was named after the first compiler of Lithuanian calendar Laurynas Ivinskis.
Moreover, we think it will be more meaningful to use not only the official project communication language (English), but also Lithuanian and Finnish for the expression of the two countries‘ cultures. Much attention in the project will be paid to Lithuanian-Finnish intercultural education and ability to live together in the enlarging EU. Different figurative techniques will be used to develop knowledge about the countries and their citizens, to analyse and measure the changes in climate.
