7) Grønlandspatruljen for fuld energi (www.groenlandspatruljen.dk)
Koordinerande skola: Skærbæk Skole Compulsory school
Skolevej 1 Skærbæk
7000 Fredericia
Denmark
Kontaktperson: Mette Svolgaard Philipsen
The purpose of the project is:
Projektet opdeles i 2 spor.

8450 Hammel, Denmark
Kontaktperson: Signe Sloth
The purpose of the project is:
The purpose of the project is to help the students from the tree countries get a better understanding for the climate changes that are happening in the tree countries. It is our intention that the students while working cross country on different climate subjects will be able to see their own situation in a larger perspective. We want to make the students come up with some solutions as to what we can do in our own three small communities/towns in our own countries to save CO2 and how we can make the inhabitants in the towns understand what they can do to reduce the emission of CO2.
It is our intention that the students develop their skills in working online using English as a communicating language and working on a project wiki. The students have to disseminate their knowledge on working internationally to others in form of courses for teachers/students and in different climate stands in connection with climate fairs held in local towns through out the project period.
Project summary:
The Climate Change Project is an international collaborative project with tree countries: Estonia, Iceland and Denmark in all consisting of around 90 students at the age of 13/14 years old. The students in the three countries have freely chosen to work with the climate issue as an extra subject on top of the compulsory time schedule. The project consists of both some project work online with the other countries and local climate teaching workshops and climate events. The results from the climate events and the climate teaching workshops are put on our project platform and commented on by the other students/teachers. The student’s project work is made cross country in different groups and on different climate issues. The subjects the students are working with are very different and chosen due to interest which makes the motivation great! The students all made a mind map on the climate change subject and this is how they found out what they wanted as a subject for their project work (for more details have a
look at the full description).
We are using a wiki as our collaborating platform. Here the students share all their work, discuss and plan their work in the different groups. The students also use the project group created in FaceBook, Skype and MSN to collaborate and chat with their project group in the other countries. The tools we use other than the collaborating tools are google docs, SlideShare, Youtube and mind mapping tools online.

14) Renewable energy – needed for stopping the climate change
Koordinerande skola: Olari secondary and upper secondary school (www.olari.fi)
PL 3323, 02070 Espoon Kaupunki
02070 Espoon Kaupunki Finland
Kontaktperson: Kyosti Blinnikka
The purpose of the project is:
Everyone and especially young people should be aware of how to prevent climate change and global warming. It’s a fact that approx. 80% of the greenhouse gas emissions are coming from energy production and consumption (including transportation). Because the use of renewable energy will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, our class (study emphasis in natural science and mathematics) has chosen to study more of renewable energy resources.
Project summary:
Our main topic is to study geothermal energy, which is basically the heat contained within the Earth. Geothermal energy is one of the renewable energies that can be recovered and exploited by man. The presence of volcanoes, hot springs, and other thermal phenomena are the main signs that show us that parts of the interior of the Earth is hot. Geothermal heat is one of Iceland's greatest natural resources.
We could say that Iceland is a forerunner of producing geothermal energy and that’s mainly because its location on one of the earth's major fault lines. But it’s also possible to use more geothermal energy here in Finland than we use today e.g. when heating houses. Therefore the group would like to study more of that area e.g. what kind of technology is used when producing geothermal energy. It’s also a plan to compare the utilization of geothermal energy in Finland and Iceland.
Also the group would like to know is that business area still growing in Iceland/Finland and what kind of companies are playing in the geothermal energy -area. One interesting topic is also the threats and possibilities of geothermal energy. It is plan to organize the videoconferences with the co-partner school weekly / biweekly and process the research study of geothermal energy. The last step is to visit Iceland and have a panel discussion with the co-partner students.
