MTT Agrifood Research Finland answers your questions on food and climate change

Nyhed

Sustainable Bioeconomy research team in MTT Agrifood Research Finland answers your questions about how production and consumption of food affects climate change. You can send your question by email to merja.saarinne@mtt.fi. We may be able to visit your school if it is located in the southern part of Finland.

Our research team has studied environmental impact of food products already for years. We have studied the climate impact of different kinds of food products, lunches, food wastes and packages. Other research teams in MTT studies environmental impacts of agricultural production. For example, MTT gathers official information on greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural practices in Finland for the global climate change inventory coordinated by IPCC (International Panel of Climate Change). The climate chance inventory is conducted every year.

MTT also maintains a rural and domestic animal exhibition park established called Elonkierto. The park is located in Jokioinen, a drive of about an hour and a half from Helsinki. The park is open from the beginning of June until mid-September. You can get familiar with Elonkierto also in the internet - http://www.mtt.fi and on Facebook - www.facebook.com/elonkierto.

Elonkierto shows you how man and nature work together. As you make your way through the park you will see how research into agriculture is conducted and how that research is put into practice. Elonkierto is a peaceful tourist spot lying deep in the ancient rural landscape of Häme.
